Viagem a Espanha | Trip to Spain

--------------------------------------------------------

This Summer was a bit different, between national exams, visits to the Chinese Embassy and farewells with family and friends there was hardly no time to relax.

On the bright side, that made me value each and every moment and of course, we cannot forget Portugal won the Euro!

To enjoy the little time we had left and take a bit of the pressure off, my parents decided to go on a road trip to Spain with me and my sister. Our final destination was Madrid but we ended up visiting other cities on our way there. Here are the highlights of our tour.

Ciudad Rodrigo

--------------------------------------------------------

This was our first stop and definitely a good start. Despite being small it´s a lovely village worth visiting. We couldn´t stay long but here are some photos showing the beauty of Ciudad Rodrigo.

Salamanca

--------------------------------------------------------

Undoubtedly one of my favorite stops. Salamanca is so charming, from the Cathedral to the University and Plaza Mayor, everywhere is filled with happy tourists and inhabitants (and the occasional pokemon). The gastronomy is very present in the city and there is very typical delicacy, the Hornazo de Salamanca which is just delicious!

--------------------------------------------------------

We had little time so we visited Ávila in a flash, we still had time to visit the city´s walls, Saint Teresa Convent, the Four Posts and the Plaza Mayor. One thing that caught my attention was how well prepared many monuments were very well adapted for people with sight or motor problems.

--------------------------------------------------------

One of the most " serious" parts of the trip and one of my favorite, the Valley of the Fallen it´s a monument built between 1940 and 1958 by the then dictator Franco (which is know buried there). It includes one of the World's Largest Crosses and a huge basilica excavated in the mountain. What I found most interesting and thought provoking was the the living conditions of the Spanish when the monument was built and the political and social context surrounding it. El Escorial is huge and is made of a palace, a monastery, a library and a museum, below there are some photos.

Note: Inside the monuments I wasn´t allowed to photograph which is why there are scarce photos of both this beautiful sights.

Madrid

--------------------------------------------------------

After so many days traveling, we finally made it!! The weather was super hot and the air was suffocating (41 degrees!) but that didn´t keep us from enjoying this beautiful city. The best part about Madrid is that the city is full of art and curiosities, you don´t have to plan your visit super strictly because every street you walk and every turn you make unfolds something that will certainly blow your mind.

Parque Warner

Adoramos!

--------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so this had nothing to do with the previous days but my inner child couldn´t have asked for a better way to finish our holidays. Both me and my sister love adventure parks, roller coasters, carousels, you name it, we love it. If it´s a theme park even better!

Of course we couldn´t leave without visiting Park Warner!
